People enjoy movies a lot, particularly if the plot involves a good hero. But the movie gets a lot better if there is an entry of an anti-villain. In layman’s terms, a hero kind of a person who does not-so-hero kind of things but the consequences of these actions result the greater good. All through the ages, we have seen many such characters, and here are some of the best we have encountered so far.

Thanos

While it is well known that the Mad Titan wanted to restore balance to the universe, his method involving wiping out half the universe was not so heroic. We see him tell Gamora about her home planet whose half population he had wiped out years ago. “The kids have known nothing but bright sunshine and full bellies”, he says. While the apparent reason for him wanting to balance the universe is not clear in the cinematic universe, he does this in order to impress Lady Death in the comicverse.

Venom

"We will eat both your arms, and then both of your legs, and then we will eat your face right off your head. You will be this armless, legless, faceless little thing, won’t you? Rolling down the street like a turd in the wind."

Not the kind of threat you would see a hero making, but definitely something that keeps the wrongdoers at their limits. This symbiote, along with reporter Eddie Brock seems to be a really good hand at saving the earth from a few threats, like Riot, in the movie. We might see them battle Carnage in the near future.

Harry Osborn

While Venom is portrayed as an anti-villain in their movie, they are portrayed as a villainous character in the Spiderman 3. When it becomes difficult for spiderman to take care of villains like Sandman and Venom alone, it is Harry Osborn who comes to his aid. While he was angry at Peter Parker earlier for the killing of his father Norman Osborn, he ignores that part and helps Peter save the day, and loses his life trying to save the city (or was it just about MJ?)

Deadpool

The merc with a mouth is perhaps one of the best characters in both comicverse as well as the cinematic universe. While being a not so good at being good, he is perhaps the kind of person who doesn’t mind being in his own skin. Shooting, swinging Bea and Arthur at enemies, he makes sure that he eliminates all of them. He is described as being neutral – not good, not bad. But it’s okay to put him on the anti-villains list because of his driving force, the What Would Spiderman Do wristband
