The #METOO movement began to spread virally in October 2017 as a hashtag on social media in an attempt to demonstrate the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, especially in workplace. It is one of the most important step taken by women all around the globe .This movement made the women to come forward and confess that they have experienced sexual abuse. This movement created a lot of attention especially in India. Top actresses and popular personalities came forward to support the movement. The hashtag #MeToo became viral on social media, with a huge response from the likes of America Ferrera, Jennifer Lawrence, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow.

In India, the movement began with Tanushree Dutta accusing Nana Patekar of sexually harassment. The movement got a huge response .A small confession by a popular personality gave courage to all the women around the globe to come forward and speak up for themselves. This movement also goes on to show that court of people has more power and strength than the judicial system. This movement has shed light on the misconduct that needs to be addressed.

The movement also forced the government to formulate laws against this . With the changing laws the movement made it clear that a line needs to be drawn between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour at workplace. There were also some people who criticized the movement and said that the popular personalities were doing so to make the headlines. But this movement also showed the man the men around the world that women won’t stay silent an can speakup for themselves. Its high time that the authorities should now take steps and formulate proper laws to protect the women around the globe . More and more women should join hands together to support the movement and speak against the misconduct.
