We are all familiar with the beautiful tradition of japanese folding and unfolding. Those little hand fans they use are a perfect example. With a little bit of creativity, these folds are merged with fabrics to create a new chapter in the world of fashion.

Creation

The Japanese fashion designer, Issey Miyake has designed a range of clothes. The speciality is that these clothes seem like two - dimensional geometric shape but when stretched, they become a fashionable outfit. Tada!

They come as skirts, pants, dresses and many more. There are ten basic two dimensional designs or patterns that complete the collection. The outfit is designed by the required cuts and positions.

Using these patterns and cuts, many clothes were designed.

The inspiration for this project was a computer scientist Jun Mitani. He is a specialist in creating three dimensional figures by folding flat materials and smooth curves.

The clothe designers used a program meant for computer modelling. They were created by Motwani. The program proved to be of great help in desgining those three-dimensional garments. After designing, they are first modeled using papers and the required cuts until they can be a flat geometric structure.

This project was undertaken by a research and development team which was formed by Miyake called miyake's reality lab. Miyake was helped by a textile engineer Manabu Kikuchi and Sachinko Yamamoto, a pattern engineer. There were 8 members and the team was formed in 2007. Their focus has always been on creating more innovative and collaborative works. And the first exhibit of this collection cane to the stores in the autumn of 2010.

True to what people say:

Creativity and determination know no bounds!
