Slumdog Millionaire

POOR! Who are they? Do we know them? Do we have to know them? Do we have empathy or at least sympathy with them? Do we feel their pain? Are they getting an equal opportunity in every field of life? Do we actually know what kind of food they are having? Or are they actually eating daily? And if yes, then what they are eating, how much food they are eating? Is the food sufficient for their whole family or someone is compromising their food by just saying- “No! No! I will not eat today, I am full”? Are their children understood to be capable enough to get admission in a convent school or still they treated as untouchables?

Why is it so that the children of an extremely poor family are not able to get admission in a private or any convent schools? Is it because- Does the school think that their parents are incapable of paying heavy fees for their schools? But they don’t know the fact that the parents of this extremely poor family can teach their children by any means, by doing hard labor or by giving double hard labor in their work. So, they don’t need to worry about their fees. Then another problem has been witnessed by the school community. They will say, parents, should speak fluent English in order to get their children admitted in this highly elite school. Then the point that should be noted here is that if they know how to speak English either fluently, then why will they pull a rickshaw, work at a construction company as a worker, drive an autorickshaw etc. to fulfil the needs of their family? Why will they choose to be in slum areas and works as a vendor to earn as much money to reach to the level of collecting money for the school? If they know how to speak English, they will also work in an MNC and by that they will easily get their children’s admission letter!

In reality, these extremely poor people are real millionaires. They are living in a slum area, fighting every morning for getting a bucket full of water. It is not easy to live in this extremely hot weather which is reaching approximately 40 degree Celsius and still, they are living happily without any A.C. or cooler. They are the real ‘Slumdog Millionaires'.
