I had been scared of dogs for a really long time. I’d try and avoid them at all costs. Probably because I had never had been around a dog that much. I’d get nervous hearing them bark and fear that they’d chase me or worst, bite me.I met someone who happened to have loved dogs like the kind of person who would love dogs more than humans kind of love. I realised that this fear of dogs would not be good for me if I wanted to be around person. So I began to make efforts. I visited my bestfriend who has a labrador. I went to stay at his place for 2-3 days. As soon as I entered his home and began to walk up the stairs, I heard a bark and I was being chased down the stairs. I found someone standing in the hall and I was told not to run and just stand there. Turns out, he wanted to meet me. He was wagging his tail which I was too afraid to notice. The I was told to pat him. I placed my shivering hands on his head and began to pat him. I spent the next couple of hours getting comfortable around him. He was happy to see me. He’d keep coming close to me and if I dint pat him he’d bark really loudly. Over the next few days I started to love being around him. I remember I opened my eyes at 5 AM and he was standing on the bed. He had to be dragged out of the room because he wanted me to pat him and we were already sleep deprived. That was how I became comfortable with dogs. I never could’ve imagined I’d end up loving this feeling of being around a dog. A dog can give so much love and affection to a human it’s almost overwhelming. I’m so glad I met this special person who initiated this change in me.
This is a picture of me patting Oscar the first day I met. I look kinda scared but I was really happy too.
