“We would love to play more tests”, said Australian captain Meg Lanning on SEN radio, as she hopes the rapid rise of women’s cricket at international level can lead to more regular test cricket. As Meg Lanning and her squad started to prepare for Ashes series in England, test cricket is one area she wants to develop more in Women’s cricket in the next few years. And she believes India is the key. For the past couple of years, only England and Australia showed interest in women test cricket. India’s rise in women cricket is no different from a fairy tale. With meteoric rise in both T-20 and One Day International, Indian Women’s team saw many ups and downs in recent years and have ripened up to play in the purest format of the game. With such a big influence in cricket, India got the infrastructure to raise the bar of test matches in women’s cricket. With continuous domination of white-ball cricket, India has only played two test matches over the past decade. With test cricket providing the different challenge for players, both mentally and physically, the real quality check of players can be done only by test cricket. With the amount of both International and Domestic cricket increased, it is perhaps the best time to introduce test cricket to many other cricketing nations.

“It is more mental than the physical”, said Meg Lanning, playing the test cricket for the first time for her country. ”You have to mentally prepare, take pride in representing your country and play with all you’ve got”, she continued.A test match win is still a dream of many women players, to feel the magical moment in the group, who are working hard to capture the glory. With South African captain, Francois du Plessis stated that Indian Men’s team skipper, Virat Kohli is the major factor to keep the test cricket alive for the next generation. It is time for his female counterparts to continue the legacy. With continual efforts from different organizations from all over the world, test cricket might regain its glory, it lost after the introduction of white-ball league.

Currently enjoying their break from international cricket, Australian Women’s team have started their training in Brisbane before their next series in June in England. It will be a good opportunity to find the areas of improvement before the long-busy schedule starts in summer for Australian cricket.
