The Kingdom of Anuradhapura

This is the most fulfilling and exquisite destination of Sri Lanka, which has been acclaimed as the longest serving capital of Sri Lanka, is also one of the most revered and holy cities of Buddhism.

This vast sprawling Complex contains a very rich and diverse collection of Archaeological as well as architectural artifacts ranging from bricks stupas( also known as the dagobas), remains of ancient temples, reminiscence of ancient pools that speak of a vibrant legacy carried forward for over thousand years.

There are a lot of places that one can visit in this Anuradhapura kingdom, and one can also try his hands on cycling through the forested paths.

It simply takes you back to an ancient time and it feels as if you are reliving the past.

Sigiriya

Also named as the Lion Rock or lion mountain, it consists of an ancient Fortress that was constructed in the late 5th century on a marvelous single rock pillar.

The steepness of the rock inevitably makes it stop overhang over the sides, and Rises to an elevation of 1144 feet above sea level.

Dating back, when a Fortress once stood here, are now but nothing more than a popular tourist destination.

Despite the fact, the enigmatic beauty of this Rock pillar is quite remarkable and with the sun real view of the nearby Plains and oceans, it becomes a lovely spot to visit.

Designated as the UNESCO World Heritage site, it contains the 21 Rock paintings of apsaras which stands as a fine testimony to the expression of painting excellence.

Polonnaruwa

This sacred ancient Kingdom boasts of an irrigation system that transcends all boundaries and their design excellence still provides irrigation water to the farmers of Sri Lanka to the region and its vicinity.

You must definitely visit the Archaeological Museum that provides in-depth detail of what front and distinct artifacts and cultural significance that Sri Lanka holds!

This ancient city contains the remains of many Fortress buildings and cultures that have been a part ofhistory.

The Royal Palace

The ruins remain which ones contained 50 rooms with 30 columns and the surprising fact is that they were 3m thick and in those ancient days machines were not invented.

The audience hall is the best-preserved place amongst all the relics that you see, and contains beautiful elephant carvings on the wall.

The Sacred quadrangle

It consists of beautiful architectural ruins with a raised up platform that is a beautiful site to watch( just like the Roman counterpart).

Four entrances of this structure lead to a central Dagobah where four Buddhas are seen in the lotus posture.

The Shiva devalaya

The magnificence and the energy of this Temple speak for itself and it is nestled between the forests and nature's lap and the old walls silently speak of the odyssey of time.
