Number 4 and 9 are considered unlucky

In Japan, the numbers 4 and 9 are considered to be unlucky. Because of this, there are no 4th floors in Japan. Even if something is to be given its either 3 or 5 but not 4 and it's either 8 or 10 but not 9.

Sleeping while facing the north means you have short lifespan

It is believed in Japan that if you sleep with your head facing the north, you will die soon and you have short lifespan. It is because the deceased person are laid at their funeral facing north.

Spider brings both good luck and bad luck

If you see a spider in the morning, that means it is a sign of good luck and you should not kill it. But if you see a spider at night, this means a sign of bad luck and you should kill it.

Writing a living person's name with red ink is bad

writing a person's name who is alive with red ink means that the person will have a short lifespan. This is due to names on graveyards being red.
