There has been a news about the recently photographed black hole, all over the news and social media. This leads us to a conclusion, there is a possibility of a worm hole, just as there was once a possibility of black hole. What does it signify? It means that time travel may be possible. As we all know, a worm hole is a connection between two points of space which are connected to each other without any consideration of the time to move between these points.

THE GRANDFATHER PARADOX

Suppose you are a person that really hates your grandfather. You decide to go back to time, killing him at his young age and return back to the present. But when you do so, you should cease to exist as well. You see, your grandfather was the reason your father was born, and if your father wasn’t born, you should not have either, but you are right there, standing at the present. This is called the grandfather paradox.

This signifies that travelling back to time is really not possible. That it is only a theory and it should not necessarily be true.

TRAVELLING TO THE FUTURE

There are currently two types of time travel possible. Travelling back to the past and travelling to the future. And for your knowledge, it is possible to travel to the future easily, and many people has already done that by now. YES IT’S TRUE. Although it is not in a very significant scale.

You see according to Einstein’s theory, time slows down for us when you travel at or near to the speed of light, or if we lurk around a gravitational force which is huge in comparison which we are normally used to, for example a black hole, whose gravitational force maybe a million times larger than that of our sun.

When we send scientists to the international space station (ISS) then their time travels a fraction slower than that of ours. If we match the watches of the scientists with ours before they are sent to space, after 6 months, we will notice that their watch is 0.005 times slower than that if ours. So basically, even if it not very relevant they did travel to the future by 0.005 seconds when they return back to Earth.

Similarly, if in theory, we send people near a black hole and they return to Earth, they might have travelled centuries once they return.

TRAVELLING TO THE PAST

Travelling to the past is one of the most controversial topics, mostly because of the grandfather paradox as mentioned earlier. However there are theories in which that might be possible. The most possible one is by using the worm holes.

Worm holes can be considered as two points in a plane paper located at opposite ends. If you have to move from point 1 to point 2, then the shortest path possible is to move in a straight line towards the other point. However it is not necessarily the case with work hole. If you fold the paper while connecting the two points with each other, that is a work hole. So the shortest path of a worm hole is to penetrate to the opposite end through the paper.

To time travel in the past through the work hole, you must have a worm hole with retractable properties. Which means that if sent away to a different location, if comes back to its initial location in a fixed amount of time. There are 2 ways in which retractable worm hole could be used.

1st way: You must accelerate one end of the work hole at the speed of light and when it comes back, one end will be in future and the other end will still be in the past with respect to the other end. This is because, when the second end of the worm hole is travelling in the speed of light, its time will be much slower than that of the 1st end. Then we can move through the 1st end of the worm hole to travel to the past through the second end of the worm hole.

2nd way: The second was is very similar to the first way. Instead of travelling the second end of the worm hole through light speed, we just send it nearby a super massive black hole. When the 2nd end is retracted, it will remain in the past as compared to the 1st end of the worm hole.

All of these speculations are all theoretical, and it also signifies than it will only be possible to travel to the past from the point when the worm hole was created. To term it in simple word, it will still be impossible to travel back to Jurassic era if you are able to create the worm hole in, say 2020.
