About The City

Guangzhou is one of the famous cities in China. It is located northwest of HongKong. It is also known as Kwangchow. It is the capital of the province of Guangdong and is the most populous city in Southern China with a population of 13 million. It is the third largest city in China. The commonly spoken languages in this city are Cantonese and Mandarin. The literal meaning of Guangzhou is 'Broad Prefecture'. It is a port city located along the Pearl River which meets with the South China Sea. The city has a large number of skyscrapers and is ranked 9th in the world for that with more than a hundred skyscrapers.

The city is famous for its skyscrapers as well as their avant-garde architecture. It has a history of more than 2000 years and it has been serving as a major port and transportation hub since the old times. In mainland China, Guangzhou is the heart of the most populous built-up metropolitan area. Based on the five stones in the Temple of the Five Immortals, it gathered the nickname City of The Five Rams. The city is very famous for its foreign trade, and tourists are attracted every year to visit this city to attend the renowned event of the Canton Trade Fair. It also has the most developed media industry in China.

It is one of the largest cities of the world hence that makes it obvious for the city to have high security. It is generally a safe city as compared to other large urban areas. Security services are available very easily and the Police are very active in the city and private security guards can also be hired. However, petty crimes that are common everywhere do take place sometimes.

The Ancestral Temple of The Chen Family

It is a famous tourist attraction in the city. Due to its beautiful garden and architecture of the temple, it attracts a large crowd. It is also known as the Chen Clan Academy or Chen's Lineage Hall. Earlier it was a place for study and worship, and now it serves as a museum and is a mark of the traditional Guangdong architecture.

Canton Tower

The Canton Tower lies at the south bank of the Pearl River. It is a 604 meters tall multi-purpose tower and is a beautiful sight at night. Its construction began in 2005 and was completed in 2010. It was formerly known as the Sightseeing tower or Astronomical Tower. It is mostly used as an observatory tower or for telecommunication and has a rooftop viewing deck. It is the second tallest tower in the world and is surrounded by several famous landmarks. The tower has a twisted shape or hyperboloid structure as inspiration from Russian architecture. Its structure is similar to Adziogol Lighthouse in Ukraine.
