"Rahat I have a very nice job offer for you in Dubai. This way you will be able to take proper care of Ruhaan as well" Mangu, the agent promised.

Rahat stole a quick glance at Ruhaan, her younger brother who was busy playing cricket. He loved Sachin Tendulkar and aspired to become a cricketer like him. Destiny had taken away the blanket of their parents at a very young age. From then 18-year old Rahat had been the sole bread-earner of the family. She did everything she could to provide Ruhaan the warmth and comfort she could never get.

Rahat, in the hope of a better future was tricked by the fraud agent Mangu into 'the business' and before she could protest, her passport was confiscated and her belongings taken away.

She was kept on being transported to different places.Sometimes working as a maid, sometimes as a rich Sheikh's wife, but always coming back to the brothel where Mangu had sold her.

She was trafficked, she was given false promises, the life she dreamt of was ruined, but what worried her the most was Ruhaan and her inability to fulfill his dream of becoming a cricketer. Nobody was there to care for him after her.

Human Trafficking

Every year thousands of women are lured into flesh trade on the behalf of promise of work. Most of them are trafficked to gulf countries, on the pretext of a lucrative job offer. They are then sold at brothels or to rich sheikhs who then treat them as their slaves.

Many of them live in small dingy rooms, forced to do jobs they never want to and tired of serving masters, they don't accept as.

Though the Indian government has worked significantly to help bring them back, a real crackdown of the agents is needed who commit such crimes. Poverty and unemployment are often the main reasons people fall prey to the those heinous agents who then exploit them in order to en-cash their own kitty.

Awareness from such impostors and an increase in job opportunities can help such misdeeds from happening. Strict laws for monitoring the progress of all job seekers abroad can also be implemented to help know the status of as well as to prevent any malpractices from happening.

Vigilant committees should maintain a blacklist of offenders and those found doing it again should be put up for serious questioning.

Every person has the same freedom and the same rights. He even has the right to practice his rights and the freedom to be free - from all subjugations and obligations.
