Impractical Jokers is an American hidden camera reality series that premiered on TruTV on December 15, 2011, and is produced by NorthSouth Productions. It follows Joseph "Joe" Gatto, James "Murr" Murray, Brian "Q" Quinn, and Salvatore "Sal" Vulcano, the four members of the comedy troupe The Tenderloins, as they coerce one another into doing public pranks while being filmed by hidden cameras.

Joseph "Joe" Gatto:

Joseph "Joe" Gatto Jr. (born June 5, 1976) is a member of the New York troupe called The Tenderloins.

Joe is known as the Joker who’s usually the most eager to take on his challenges. The other Jokers have described him as the hardest to punish, due to his shame-free attitude.

Joe loves to eat and is frequently seen eating on the show. He explained his obsession with food to screen TC: “My mother had an open-door policy,” he tells Zap2it. “She always had enough food a friend could stay for dinner. Absolutely my favorite memories are around the table. The meal is an event.”

He’s not above stealing food, either. “If we’re at a bakery I’ll just grab something,” he told Looper.

Salvatore Edward Anthony "Sal" Vulcano:

Salvatore Edward Anthony "Sal" Vulcano (born November 5, 1976) is a member of The Tenderloins.

He has the most punishments out of any joker.
Sal Vulcano was born on November 26, 1976, in Staten Island, New York City, New York. His parents are Sal Vulcano Sr. and Dianne Fernandez-Vulcano, though they divorced when he was young. Sal has three sisters: Kelly Ann, the eldest; Diana and Jenna, his two younger sisters. Jenna has made an appearance in three episodes of Impractical Jokers.

Sal Vulcano went to Monsignor Farrell High School and graduated in 1994. There he took part in various sports like hockey, basketball, and football. Then he went to St. Johns University and graduated with a degree in finance in 1998.

Sal suffers from ailurophobia (fear of cats), acrophobia (fear of heights), and germophobia, all three of which are used against him in challenges and punishments.

The Jokers have described Sal as the easiest to punish due to his neurotic tendencies, multiple phobias, and timid attitude.

Brian Michael "Q" Quinn:

Brian Michael "Q" Quinn (born March 14th, 1976) is a member of the New York troupe called The Tenderloins and is the oldest of the characters of Impractical Jokers with his three friends.

Q is a former firefighter, having served with the FDNY for eight years.

At one point, Q suffered from serious encephalitis and meningitis. Filming was delayed at least a week, and Q was allowed to skip at least one challenge due to health issues.

Q is in no relationship at the moment and is more private about his personal life than his compatriots. He has dated a makeup artist for the show in the past who was his fiancé that left him for a police officer.

James Stephen "Murr" Murray (born May 1st, 1976) is a member of the New York-based comedy troupe called The Tenderloins and is one of the characters of Impractical Jokers.

James “Murr” Murray:

James “Murr” Murray is the constantly-smiling guy who looks like a ferret, according to his fellow Jokers. Like the rest of them, he’s from Staten Island. Murr has been acting and doing comedy for years. About the success of Impractical Jokers, he’s said: “I think the comments that we get all the time, and I consider this a huge compliment, is that we remind people of the friends they had growing up and what they do with their friends. That means we’re doing our job right.”

Murr told DenOfGeek that some of his comedic influences include Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Kids in the Hall, I Love Lucy, and the Zucker brothers movies, among others.

Murr was the third Joker to lose his virginity, during which he wore two condoms. He was in a committed relationship with a woman named Tara, which ended sometime before the show began. Murr suffers from acrophobia (fear of heights) and ailurophobia (fear of sharks).

Murr has been described on numerous occasions as an asshole by the other Jokers. This is likely the reason as to why he often receives the most absurd or humiliating punishments.

Aside from his comedy career, Murr is also an author, having co-written a sci-fi horror novel called Awakened, which is now in the talks for a TV adaptation. Murr intended for Awakened to be the first of a trilogy. People who buy multiple copies of Awakened are in for a close encounter with this Joker. He says that he FaceTimes every person who buys at least 10 copies of it and reads them a chapter.
