Today, India has the oldest civilisation in the world. In the ancient times india was known as Bharat, the name was given by the Bharat clans that resided along the fertile indus valleys. Being independent in 1947, India covers an area of 32,87,263 sq. km, Lying entirely in the northern hemisphere, the mainland extends between latitudes 8° 4' and 37° 6' north, longitudes 68° 7' and 97° 25' east and measures about 3,214 km from north to south between the extreme latitudes and about 2,933 km from east to west between the extreme longitudes. India has a caost line of about 7500kms. India is the 7th kargest country in the world, with 2nd highest population in the world just below china.
India is a beautiful country surrounded by the Himalayas in the north, flanked by the Arabian sea in the west coast and Bay of Bengal in the East coast. Lush green Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats add to the beauty. India shares border with Pakistan and Afghanistan in the north western part, China in the Northern part, Bhutan in north eastern part and Bangladesh in the eastern part. The island places like Lakswadeep and Anadamans are the pride of our countries natural diversity.
India in total compromises 29 states, 7 Union Territories with 640 districts, and thousands of sub districts, with Delhi being India’s capital. Our constitution upholds the basic structure of our country. India is secular, republic and democratic. We have our fundamental rights and duties that for core principles for the people of india. India has a federal government set up that is Three level of government. Central, state and local government. India is also the largest democracy in the world. We also have as of today 22 languages recognised by the constitution, whre hindi being the official language. If we take dialects in consideration, the numbers are very large. Religion like Hindu, Muslim, Christian, persian, Jains, etc resides peacefully in india, while Hindu constitutes about 80.5% of all the religions. Not to forget, One of the 7 wonders of the world lies in India- The Taj Mahal. Incredible India.
According to the 2011 census, Indian has a literarcy rate of 74.04%, with 65.8 years of life expectancy, and sex ratio of 940 females per 1000 males. India also witnesses all the weather seasons like Winter, Summer, Autumn, Monsoon being a watched out activity for india, as it bering majority of rains to the continent. Additionally, india is natural hazard country whivh faces natural disaster like earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, cyclones etc.
