The God of the Heaven had ten disobedient sons who transformed themselves into ten suns and scorched the earth cold-heartedly from the heaven. The God of the Heaven comandedHou Yi, an archer, to make the situation better. Hou Yi Houyi descended to Earth, held an arrow from his satchel, he took aim at the suns and shot them with it. In the end, nine of the Jade Emperor’s sons were dead.

Houyi left only one sun alive, to give the earth.

Raged by his sons death, God of the Heaven cursed Hou Yi and his wife Chang Er to loose their immortality and live as ordinary humans who would face death on the Earth. Hou Yi then decided to meet the immortal Queen who makes the potion for immortality and request her to give it to him as he believed that his wife did not deserve the suffering. The Immortal Queen however warned him that half the potion was enough to make a person immortal and the entire potion had the powermake one ascend to heaven. So he decided that half of the potion would be for his wife and the other half for himself.

Hou Yi returned as started resting. MeanwhilePeng Meng, one of his students was very mean, cunning and selfish, tried to steal the potion in Hou Yi's absence just when Chang Er entered the place trying to get the potion back. Chang Er knowing that she couldn't win over Peng Meng, drank the entire potion fearing that he would use it for unkind purposes.
