Most of us fantasize scenarios when something could’ve been different. Think about, what if you went to a different school or resided in a different continent or opted for a different career path. There’s a possibility of all these paradigms existing, that too in another dimension. These arguments are presented by the theory of parallel universe, that there exist parallel universes, exactly like our universe. These universes are all related to ours; indeed, they branch off from ours, and our universe is branched off of others. Within these parallel universes, our every action or decision taken by us as different outcomes than the ones we know. Species that are extinct in our universe, such as dinosaurs have evolved and adapted in others. You never know that humans might be extinct in a universe and there might be an existence of a completely different species that walk and talk just like we do.

Let’s understand this using an elementary example. We’ll complement this theory using the famous experiment of Schrodinger’s cat, a spooky animal that lives in a closed box. We take into account two probabilities of the cat being dead or alive. If the cat stays in the box too long, it is likely to die. This idea of multiverses is supplemented by the concept of inflation. However, this is different from the one that you studied in economics, it’s physics centric.During an ancient period timed well before the formation of Big Bang, the universe perpetually expanded. This accelerated expansion was known as inflation.Initially,Inflation was looked into only to explain the cause of uniformity of temperatures in

the present universe. While the exact details of the theory are vexed, inflation is widely accepted by physicists. The theory alluded that the universe is perhaps still expanding and getting larger every second of time. But due to the quantum fluctuations of space-time, some parts of the universe never actually reach the final stage of inflation. This means that the universe is, eternally inflating. Few subsets of universe branch to new universes and the new ones create modern verses. There are a huge number of Universes out there that are governed by different laws which might seem ludicrous to us. The rate at which the universe expands has still not been calculated but scientists say that it’s much faster than we think. As you are reading this, new multiverses would've been formed. Even Stephen Hawking stated that the possibility of the existence of multiverses is enormously high.
