Mario Kart 8 is the best kart racing game Nintendo has made in a long time. It has the perfect mixture of nostalgic old ideas and innovative new inventory. It may look like cartoons racing, but believe me, it is no less than fast and furious and can cause a dispute among childhood friends on using a turtle.

What's new in MK8?

Mario Kart 8 includes 48 great courses making it difficult to remember the shortcuts in each one of them. There are different speed classes for a different type of players.

The best mode is the renegade roundup where a group of thugs tries to fight or flee from piranha plant cops. The online system is robust, and with the ability to change your kart and racers during a race is incredible.

The loading times are lower in Switch as compared to other consoles although online multiplayer is a mess in switch due to the independent app on mobile phone for voice chat. Mario Kart 8 still looks great as it looked in 2014.

The concept of drifting around corners for nitro boost is still there. The ability to fly is great, and it comes quite handy while playing Mario Kart with friends. The new tracks added to the game are dense are continually changing. They have a lot of hidden routes and are quite long.

There are several powerups to be acquired during a race; this includes nitro boosts, turtle shells and most distinctive is the super horn. The Super Horn floats around you and when activated releases a shockwave that knocks out the nearby players.

How much skill is required?

Most of the items in Mario Kart 8 require timing and precise direction. This is the part where it makes a difference. A well-timed turtle shell can pull you back from 1st position to the last making you cry all week long. Its gameplay is simple and similar to FIFA, the more you play and the more you know about the intimate details about the game, the better is your chances of winning.

There is also a technical aspect of the game. Nintendo tries to keep all fast-paced games at 60 fps and Mario Kart is no different, but when the number of the player increases up to 4, then due to limited hardware capability of the Switch the framerate is reduced to 30.

But this is not a deal breaker because of all other details and fun nights you will be getting are more important than getting smoother gameplay.
