“BojackHorseman” is a television series with a genre of darkcomedy.I tdeals with human emotions as taboos in society in a very subtle manner .This is manifested through several characters in the show with an amalgamation of humorous uncertainties and distinct personas ,making it realistic and a must watch .This is a description of a scene on how adults suppress their emotions to fit into the ideal niche created bysociety .This can be very overwhelming and have massive impact on an individual's personality making them unique .This article questions the notion of normalcy created by society.
The sun burnt itself to light until it drowned in a deep sea encompassed by city lights and yellow lamp posts .The heart of the drunkard Bojack had sunk too as he lied around his sofa oblivious of his long pending autobiographical interview .Mrs Diane was a lean woman with big brown eyes peeping from her thick glasses as though they could see beyond just vision.
So how was your childhood she asked .Bojackwore a blank expression on his face took a minute and said, “completely normal”. “How was your relation with your father”? He rolled his eyes gawkily and murmured “perfectly fine”. This was followed with a set of questions and all she could hear was normal with long pauses. She wondered how normal one’s life would have been to make him a hopeless ,self loathing alcoholic. Many more such days the sky was painted orange and splashed blue, until one bright moonlit night she whispered ;I am looking for an honest gateway to your past and not sugarcoated statements.
He took a moment gulping some air wheezily, gazing at the stars and began ; I had a terrible childhood .My father was a failed novelist ,who abused me both physically and mentally .My mom cursed me for everything I had done to her including being born .Her smoking and other addictive habits made by formative years miserable.
He rose from his seat, walked up to the balcony and looking at Mrs Diane mumbled in a heavy voice, just as I said “completely normal".
Normalcy is a state that individual redefine for themselves. It is shaped from our past experiences, incidents and socialization.Overtime we learn to live with it and accept it as it is.However this can be a very damaged version of ourselves which we have been ignoring from the past. This can be self destructive and devastating. It is here that we need to reconsider our present state and work upon it.
