Remembering the games:

The kids from the 90’s would definitely be able to relate to the warm evenings of the summer when the sun turned red and the sky covered itself with homebound birds. Those were the evenings that didn’t have the luxury of playing cricket or football on the computers, rather it was the real field that experienced the tournaments. The pressure to studies were equal if not more than today, but the urge to play always overpowered it.

Why are they good?

Playing outdoor games like cricket, football etc was not only a good form of exercise but also kept most of the children of that time very healthy. If we try to compare the kids of the nineties with todays’ kids, the rate of obesity is way more than that time. This indicates that the health issues are real and is alarming as well.

Today is an era of technological advancements and corporate race tracks being build all around for the people. Today is the time where ranks in PUBG is more important to be part of a peer group than owing a football or a cricket bat. We see a very a decrease in number of children who go outside and play during their free times. This situation is not only alarming from a health point of view of the children, but it also plays an important role in shaping their minds for the future. It is a scientifically proven fact that physical exercise and outdoor games that involve some amount of physical mobility help the children to be more mentally sharp than others of their age. Increase in the popularity of computer-based games which requires sitting at home and playing them have also led to diseases like anxiety, obesity and stress. Instead of being a recreational activity, these computer games have increased the amount of pressure on the minds of young children.

Unlike the graphical games on the computer, real and physical outdoor games are the ones which make someone mentally, emotionally and socially strong apart from making them physically strong. Though the evening outdoor games are no more a trend setter, they are surely made to give you nostalgia moments after growing up. It is also the responsibility of parents and elders to encourage children towards a real sport which could enhance their mobility at a very young age and would benefit them for the entire future.

The need of the hour is to be more concerned about the children who are the future of the country. These children need to be fit in every aspect and not all virtual games are capable of doing it, unless it is a real sport.
