Even the slightest mention of this word DRUG alarms us because this evil is present in our society and especially is affecting the youth who are the building blocks of nation. But the question that arises is why do people take drugs?Statistical studies show that around 90% people consume drugs so that they may achieve ephemeral happiness. And the rest 10% uses drugs to relieve boredom or to experiment. Those who feel helpless, lonely and those who have faced failures usually opt this evil. And these people are so secretive that even their parents are oblivious about this fact.

A drug is a double edged sword. Both beneficial and destructive. It essentially is a medicine that is used to change the way the body is performing. For instance, caffeine keeps us awake and Aspirin relieves pain. But there's a famous saying that excess of everything is badand drugs are no different. Youngsters easily get addicted to drugs and then escaping from this trap is nearly impossible. Drugs affect us mentally, physically, socially and even financially. It consumes our mind, weakens our physical endurance, drives us away from our family and drains our resources.

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT:

Drugs may have short term or even long term influence on an individual. In large cases, drugs cause vomiting, unconscious and even death. Drugs disrupt the functions of nervous system. It slows down the process of transmission of impulses through our body. Nausea, gastric problems, insomnia, headaches and panic attacks are also the consequences of drugs. Drugs also make an individual vulnerable to sexual assault. It also reduces fertility in humans.

SOCIAL IMPACT:
Illicit drug activity affects the social sphere as it increases violence. Addicts usually spend time alone which drives them away from there social life. Those who openly consume drugs are left with no social support. They keep indulging deep into this dirty hole that the exit seems almost impossible. Addicts turn aggressive, unmotivated that somehow negatively affects their relationship with people.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Drugs are mostly expensive and those who are addicted to drugs use all the resources to buy it. And once their own resources exhaust, they indulge into crimes. Addicts lose their job which adds to their problems. They can go to any damn extent to satisfy their need. It also eats up the valuable time of an individual which could have been invested in something productive.

So we all need to join hands to deal with this evil. Awareness programs should be chalked out to help youngsters. Government should ban the selling of drugs without prescription and should also setup rehabilitation centers for the already affected youth. It's high time we save our youth.
