Hype Of Men's Cricket In India

When was the last time someone asked you about the national sport of India and you answeredthe question correctly but with GUILT? If you didn't feel any guilt then trust me my friendyou should have because knowing *which celeb is going where* and *who is marrying whom* arewhat we are more interested in rather than knowing about our country and its stage of losing theimportance of its national sport.

Men's Cricket isn't just a sport anymore, it has now turned into a religion. An over hyped sport with immense attention from the country that even if the team loses, the whole country supports them putting its faith in the team whereas sports like women's cricket, hockey, football, chess, weightlifting, boxing etc. are only talked about in the news channels and on the social media (youth's medium for news as well) only and that too when the team or a player wins medals for the country.

(PS: don't judge me. I am a cricket fan too. Grown up being a huge fan of Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Kumar Sangakara and AB de Villiers).

The circumstances are such that the captain of the Indian football team, Sunil Chhetri, had top lead the country for their support so that they could make YOUR country and their country proud globally. Demand or popularity of sports other than men's cricket is unheard of. The equipment, facilities, luxury and even stardom are nimbly available to the men's cricket team whereas the chief coach of the Indian men's hockey team, Harendra Singh, had to complain about the poor quality of food and hygiene level at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Bengaluru ( OOPS!! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?)

Sad part is that the country's government itself isn't efficient and supportive enough to all the other sports. All that the Government provides is less funds and facilities, inferior quality of equipment and very less support to the sports federations. We know exactly how important is media’s role in escalating news (sensible or utterly insensible), but when it comes to sports which are notso famous, media has always been 100 steps behind when it should have been promoting and supporting these sports (because apparently Taimur’s first hello and Yogi Adityanath’s barber are important for the media to cover than the country’s progress in sports)

FUN FACT: The first sport India was part of in Olympics was hockey in 1928. Since then, India has won 26 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 19 bronze medals; i.e. 73 medals in total.

I am not anti- cricket. All I want to say is that we should support the budding talents of India so that every other house in India has a talent born and raised like Geeta Phogat, PV Sindhu, Sunil Chhetri, Harmanpreet Kaur, Hima Das and many more whose victories and passion shouldn't beunheard and unsung of.
