Murders in Florence.

It was the time period from the late 1960s to 1985 or somewhere around that time, when a series of murders, which mainly targeted couples, started occurring. The murderer murdered at least 14 people at that time in and around Florence, Italy. This case is infamous, partly because of its resemblance to the Zodiac murders that occurred in Northern California in the years 1968 to 1969.

The name was Il Mostro, as Italians liked to call him. He targeted couples having their time in parks and lover's lanes. It was reported that he used to kill them with a .22 rifle and a knife. Well, he did not just stop there. He also left a gruesome and unique signature style behind every murder and that was cutting off parts of the women he murdered and saving them as souvenirs. It can also be stated that he might have stalked some of his targets before committing the murders and then tormented their families after the murders.

Police did not have any lack of suspects. The most important one being convicted murderer was Pietro Pacciani who also went by the name "Peeping Tom". In fact, a trial was conducted for Pacciani for the crimes committed by Il Mostro and was also convicted, but the conviction overturned. Then Pacciani's friends Mario Vanni and Giancarlo Lotti were also convicted of the murders and were imprisoned. But few Italians were convinced that it was not done by just one man. They believed that it was the collaboration of many minds who committed these crimes.

Just like other murder cases, here also many theories circulated. One such theory was that some kind of satanic link, which was a common suggestion in case of any unusual and strange murders, was prevalent. But there is still a powerful feeling that resides among many Italians till date that they do not really know the actual answers to this mystery at all.

Was it really the work of them? Or was it some satanic work? What was the real reason? What do you think?
