Tattoos are a way of expressing your mind and your personality in ink. And the most interesting thing about it is that its sort of permanent and it remains with you till your last breath. So people usually go for tattoos that mean something to them, that is very close to their heart.

In early times, tattoos were not as popular as they are now today. The trend has increased tremendously in a short period of time. And it’s no longer considered as something rebellious or shady. But coming from a middle class Indian family, I still feel the parents are not that comfortable with their teenage children getting a tattoo. They somewhat feel it’s because their children are falling into bad company. It’s hard to change their mentality soon but I think things are gradually getting better and with time people will realize that not all people who have tattoos are criminals or there is something wrong with them.

Social media plays an important role towards the increasing popularity of tattoos. Many athletes, actors, singers, models sport these and thankfully the stereotype regarding tattoos are changing. When your body is a canvas itself, the designs and ideas have no limits. Some prefer tiny tattoos or quotes and some prefer large, life like designs. There are different categories too like-

Traditional

(dark lines, bold and bright colours like roses and anchors)

Realism

(realistic depictions about anything)

Watercolour

(light and dainty tattoos in pastels)

Tribal

(usually consist of patterns and are done in black)

New school

(features cartoons, caricatures and other exaggerated figures), etc.

Tattoo industry is growing fast and there is hardly any lack of tattoo artists. People who want to take up tattoo artist as a career option, do courses and become certified artists. To get something marked on your body which will stay forever is a huge risk. So before going and getting a tattoo, you need to check the portfolio of the artist and make commitment to the right artist. There are many factors that need to be looked into before getting a tattoo, specially hygiene. And even after getting one, you need to be careful whether your skin is okay, if any rashes are appearing, letting the tattoo breathe, applying ointment; basically taking proper care of it.

At times people regret their tattoos and they want to remove it. Tattoo removal technology is gettig widely popular and the tattoo studios have their own laser removal equipment. People at times cover up their old tattoos with a new one or else totally remove it.

And once you get a tattoo, the need to get one more becomes stronger and you love the idea of your body covered with ink in different beautiful designs. Getting a tattoo is like expressing your own identity. It’s like finding who you are and what you like. It carries a meaning and everytime you look at it, it should remind you of that.

Even though tattoos are getting popular, at some situations or places like a job interview, renting a house, hospital, etc it is still not accepted with open arms. So before getting one you need to be careful about any difficulties you might face.
