Several of the exotic bird species migrates to find home in India. Here's a list of species of birds that migrates to India in Summer season :-
1. The Asian koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus)
The Asian koel is a large, long-tailed, cuckoo. The male is glossy bluish-black, with a pale greenish grey bill, the iris is crimson, and has grey legs and feet. The female is brownish on the crown and has rufous streaks on the head. The familiar song of the male is a repeated koo-Ooo. The female makes a shrill kik-kik-kik... call. They are omnivorous, consuming a variety of insects, caterpillars, eggs and small vertebrates but feeds mainly on fruit.
Mainly resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to southern China and the Greater Sundas.
2. The comb duck or American comb duck
It is one of the largest species of duck. Adults have a white head freckled with dark spots, and a pure white neck and underparts. The male is much larger than the female, and has a large black knob on the bill.
Mainly found in the Northern parts of India especially in the state of Haryana. Also spotted in the Sultanpur, Manas, Batla and Corbett national parks.
3. The blue-cheeked bee-eater
A near passerine bird in the bee-eater family. They are richly coloured, slender bird, predominantly green. Its face has blue sides with a black eye stripe, and a yellow and brown throat, the beak is black. It winters in open woodland or grassland. The call sounds 'flatter' and less 'fluty' than the European bee-eater.
In India, they are found in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh & Jammu and Kashmir.
4. The Eurasian golden oriole or golden oriole.
A summer migrant in Europe and western Asia and spends the winter season in central and southern Africa.The male is the typical oriole black and yellow plumage, but the female is a drabber green bird.
The male of the Indian golden oriole has the black eye-stripe extending behind the eye. They has a longer and paler red bill with more yellow in the plumage.
Their song is a beautiful fluting weela-wee-ooo or or-iii-ole. Their habitats includes open forests, woodland, mangroves, parks & gardens.
5. The blue-tailed bee-eater
This species, like other bee-eaters, is a richly coloured, slender bird which is predominantly green. Its face has a narrow blue patch with a black eye stripe, and a yellow and brown throat with blue tail & black beak.
It is most often seen near large water bodies. Like other bee-eaters it predominantly eats insects, especially bees, wasps and hornets. The blue-tailed bee-eater is a highly migrant bird.
They populates in central, north and northeast India. The breeding season of these blue-tailed bee-eater species is from February to June in north India.
