If you are a vegetarian, this article will surely be mind-boggling. And If you are a meat lover, you will have a strong point to say to your vegan friends as a take-a-way.

Cultured Meat

In April 2019, The Union Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Technology decided to fund Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad and National Research Centre on Meat for research on synthetic meat. This kind of research has been taking place in the USA since 2013.

Cultured meat may be on your plates sooner than you expect.

Cell-based meat, also called clean or cultured meat, is actually produced by using regenerating techniques on animal tissues.

There are some cells present in the muscle which heal it when injured. Cell-based meat technique involves extracting these cells, called ‘mysosatellite cells’, which are the stem cells of muscles. The animals from which these cells are extracted are not harmed in any way. Maybe you forgot, there are millions of cells in a body.

The next step is to nurture the stem cells by giving them nutrients. In a laboratory, this will further cause cell division and grow in a similar way, a zygote does. If everything goes right, this cell will transform into a small amount of meat.

'We shall escape the absurdity of growing a whole chicken in order to eat the breast or wing, by growing these parts separately under a suitable medium,” -Winston Churchill

Why Cell Based Meat is the Future?

The research is going on to make the process of preparation economical.

When completed, this will surely be a scientific feat. It will be an important step for industrial growth and animal welfare. It will help in environment preservation, as a lot of energy is utilized in producing meat. Also this will help in achieving true meat rather than produced by keeping livestock in a dirty environment and pumping them up with steroids.

The moral and religious issues of a vegetarian will come into question in a few years.

Can they eat meat that is prepared without hurting any animal?
Can they accept it?

Even if most of them can't, it did create an option for the rest.
