Recently supreme court decriminalised section 377 which has been the talk of the town since a long time. Section 377 states that Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine. But even now this section has been decriminalised, still many political parties and leaders have openly condemned it and called it against the cultural heritage of our country.
I don't understand one thing, how gay sex or anything like this is against he culture. Which culture allows us to exploit the rights of other people and judge them on the basis of their sexuality. If they are not born like us ,it's not their fault .This is not just about protecting sexual minorities but also recognising characteristics inherent in all human beings. Homosexuality is an order of nature and it's the fundamental right of such people to be treated as equal . Therefore these people deserve to be treated in the same way as other people are treated. Many people argued that decriminalising homosexuality would affect the institution of marriage. Generally people find it disgusting to talk about homosexuality because it has been described like this to us since childhood butGod has made everyonedifferent . Putting restrictions on them isnot just inhuman but is also invading their rightto privacyas well. We can't deny it as it's a matter of individual choice, condemnation of consensual sex between two adults in private isacceptable unless it's harming anyone else.
We need to accept people the way they are without making them change because we find it strange. Earlier people were not aware of such things but now society is advanced, time has changed and we need to change as well. People have started to think of homosexuality as a mental disorder or disease. As quoted by the Chief Justice, " An individual has full liberty over his or her body and his or her sexual orientation is a matter of one’s choice." We need to acknowledge that it's okay to be different. It's okay to love someone of the same gender. As homosexuality is legal in India,we need to be open about it and start accepting people as they are . We don't wish anyone to discriminate us and hence we should do the same with others as well.
