Sports Trivia - BADMINTON
There is a sport which is favorably comparable with any sport, certainly with any racket sport, judging by the sheer physical exertion and mental concentration involved. It is none other than Badminton. Badminton is one of the fastest racket sports because the fastest racket shot is only recorded in badminton.

Commonly it seems that both badminton and tennis are similar in a sense but the average badminton match may not last as long as a tennis match, but the shuttle play takes longer time than tennis and number of shots taken in doubles is also numerous than in tennis.

SCIENTIFIC FACT:
According to the biological study, Badminton is usually thought of as an aerobic or endurance type sport since players must be able to play for around an hour. Energy is provided by both the aerobic (60% to 70%) and anaerobic (30%) systems.

ORIGIN:
The sport of badminton has its origins in ancient civilizations in Europe and Asia. This game was originated more than 2000 years earlier. It was an upper-class pastime in those days. A contemporary form of a game called ‘Poon' was played in India in the 1800s where a net was introduced and the players hit the shuttlecock across the net. British officers in the mid-1800's to take this game back to England and it was introduced as a game for the guests of Duke of Beaufort at his stately residence ‘Badminton’ in England where it became popular. Later, when the first Open Tournament held, the USA and Canada became ardent followers of the game during the 1930s. Thus, from then the fame of this game spread all over.

Many good players have been recognized all over the world in this field. Even our country, India had got great recognition all over the world by this sport. Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal, K. Srikanth, and P.V. Sindhu are ranked among top-10 in current BWF ranking. But it’s not that easy to get such great recognition because the badminton sport is not that simple to earn medals.

The pace of the game requires badminton players to be hectically very good. This includes a high level of fitness includes reading the play, executing actions and making spontaneous decisions. They also have more precise reactions and refined eye-hand coordination. This is not that easy. It comes only with rigorous practice and experience.

At last, we can say that Badminton is one of the fastest rising sports in the world, it takes an exceptional player to beat the elite level as they must excel in many areas and takes extraordinarily to win at the Olympic Games and brings great recognition to a country all over the world.
