Ontologies are to be developed that can express any of the traffic situation.

"Thispaperpresentsanontology-basedsystemforroad transportation management, with the aim of providingdriver assistanceindifferenttrafficsituations.Thearchitectureis basedonacentralizedmechanismforsmartrouting. The developed ontology manages the knowledge related to vehicles and environmental elements that can influence road traffic such asinfrastructureelements, weatherconditionsandtraffic regulations in Japan. "The paper is organized as follows -

ONTOLOGY-BASED SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
Intelligent System for Road Traffic Management consists of three layers -
1. Query Layer -
2. Reasoning Layer - Used the reaasoner pellet in this layer
3. Ontology layer or OWL - Build the ontology in this layer
ONTOLOGY Layer-
"In the ontology layer of the system, an ontology that relates thedifferentroadtrafficentitieshasbeendeveloped. The ontology was implemented in OWL-RDF language [10] using the protégé tool [11]. "

We have two groups -
First one related to vehicles (consists of vehicle taxonomy - "commercial vehicles, public vehicles (bus and taxi), private vehicles (car, bicycle and motorbike) and priority vehicles (ambulances, fire trucksand police cars). Different relationships between vehicles and other entities are defined also in this group. Some of these entities are:location, showingtheexactlocation(latitudeand longitude)ofavehicle, routepointorinfrastructureitem; information aboutdrivers andthe vehicle’s typeswhich they can drives by license."

Second one related to infrastructure - "howsthesecondgroup, whichorganizesthe elements related to road infrastructure. In this group the most importantconceptrepresentstheroads, whichinJapanare classified as local roads, prefectural roads, national highways and national expressways. For better management of traffic situations we divided the roadsintosegments, connectedthroughintersections. Each segment contains lanes, and different signs such as stop signs orspeedcontrol, trafficlights orroad markingsare ineach lane.Eachsignalhasanactionassociatedfollowingthe Japanese traffic regulations."

Reasoning Layer -
Three types of reasoning are used -
1. Reasoning with first order logic
2. Reasoning with rules
3. Reasoning with Description
In reasoning we try to infer knowledge from already existing knowledge (Aritificial Intelligence).
Tool supporting three types of reasoning - PELLET
Tool used to write rules - SWRL (Semantic Web RuleLanguage)

Query Layer -
Thetoplayer of thesystem is the querylayer. Here the differentagentsperformtheirtasksusingtheinformation stored in the ontology. As ontology query languagehas been used SPARQL [13].
