There may be many right and wrong things going in our country but the very first thing that comes to my mind is The reservation policy in India.

We live in a free country and this freedom is a gift of democracy to us. Our constitution gives us the right to freedom and most importantly to exercise this freedom in an equitable manner. At the same time, it is incumbent on the part of the state to ensure that equality prevails in all sections of the society.

However in today’s time, one of the major roadblocks to this equality is the Reservation system.

First of all, what is the reservation system? How is it implemented?

Currently, as per the government policy, 15% of the government jobs and 15% of the students admitted to universities must be from Scheduled Castes and for the Scheduled tribes, there is a reservation of about 7.5 % each. Other than this, the state governments also follow their own reservation policies respectively based upon the population constitution of each state. So nearly 50% of seats are reserved for home states.

This kind of reservation system based on the caste of the people affects the quality badly.,

Then why had ‘reservation system’ started?

Reservation might have started by Dr. B.R. Ambedhkar to uproot all the discriminations done between low caste and high caste people in the society and to bring equality between them. They ensured that later in the near future this reservation would be stopped.

But now it has become a dirty politics tricks played by the political parties to bag votes from lower caste people.

But nowadays, the situation becomes worse and even if any government wish to remove the reservation policy then they may lose his governance because it is a democracy (by the people).

So, what should be done?

Criteria of the reservation should be changed. Reservation should be done on the basis of economic condition irrespective of he/she is from general category (upper class) or SC, ST (lower class).

Why should it be changed? Did discrimination uproot from our society?

No, discrimination is not totally uprooted, from our society because of ~

A rich SC/ST person is never barred to enter in religious places ie temples, but a poor person’s feet in the temple is still questioned.

So yes discrimination is still going in Indian society with low caste people if he is poor.

How should the reservation system be removed?

People should be categorized on the basis of the economy one’s have. The rich class should not be given any kinds of reservations while poor class should be given all kinds of benefits and middle-class people with few benefits.

If these things being implemented, then what benefits will be seen?

  • More quality and deserving people will be picked.

  • One of the major rising problems of poverty will be reduced in high numbers.

  • Equality among different class of people irrespective of rich or poor will be established.

  • The gap between rich and poor will be diminished with the reservation benefits for the poor.

  • Poor or middle-class general people will not have to sacrifice.

  • The cheap mentality of people of our Indian society may change to a great extent.

  • It will help the nation to be faster developing one.

  • It can bring a revolution in our country.

  • It can bring a change in many lives.

So, yes, in my opinion, reservation system on the basis of caste is one such wrong thing in our great INDIA.
