Ever since the evolution of mankind, there have been several myths, thoughts, and beliefs that have an impact on the lifestyle of humans.

According to the Oxford Learner's Dictionary, A superstition is a belief that particular events happen in a way that cannot be explained by reason or science. So basically, superstition is a term for any practice that is considered irrational or supernatural. It arises from ignorance, a misunderstanding of science, a positive belief in fate or magic or a fear of the unknown. It is applied to practices surrounding luck, prophecy, spiritual beings and a belief that events can be foretold by specific unrelated prior events.

So, is there a science behind these thoughts and ideas? Superstitions are our brain's way of making sense of a perplexing world. For a health issue, we replace our beliefs in evil spirits with our knowledge of viruses and the science of medication. The loss of superstitions is a sign of progress. But that doesn't mean they don't have any value. The difference between"wrong" and "superstitious" essentially comes down to how sensible we are in our guesses and judgment. We create a world of our own thoughts and ideas and for no rhyme or rhythm trust the unknown. The fear of what hasn't even happened or may not happen is the building step of any superstitious belief

Some very common superstitions across the globe include

1. Friday the 13th: Bad luck

2. Breaking a mirror: Bad luck

3. Black cats crossing our path: Bad luck

4. Finding a horseshoe: Good luck

Not only do superstitions arise from the general ideas and believes it also comes from different materialistic things referred to as a charm. Many people wear certain clothes, shoes or accessories considering them to be a lucky charm. They consider it to be bringing good luck to them in one way or another. And superstitions are not just limited to the uneducated and backward parts of society rather they are even popular among very famous celebrities. From Bollywood to Hollywood to any sportsperson everyone has his own way of finding good luck. The very famous celebrity Mr. Amitabh Bachchan avoids watching live cricket matches as he believes it would lead to the fall of wickets. There are endless examples of men who think that different things might affect their day to day activities. But with the increasing knowledge of science and technology the world is changing. The thoughts brought with different generations that have come are being shunned and people are turning from myths to practicality. Science is doing wonders and people are beginning to believe in hard work more than luck. People are understanding the difference between being wrong and being irrational. The belief in fate and magic is slowly ending and trust in technology and development is building its way.
