Journalism is the activity of gathering, assessing, creating and presenting news and information. Journalism spans history, going all the way back to 1400s but it really kicked off in 1600s when the printing press was established in Germany. It started from publishing newspapers and its transformation now to the digital era. Where we get news on our fingertips. Throughout these years we are dependent on journalism in order to be updated which helps in the overall development of the society. Realizing the importance of journalism, reliable and significant news started getting published.
Since the start of the journalism, the journalist or publisher use to present news of public interest. We can't blame them to make the income for the services they provide. Maybe all these times that we, readers are the one who stained the significance of journalism. Yellow journalism started during the first world war. Yellow journalism means publishing sensational news. It used to grab a lot of readers attention and hence in order to compete with other publishers, most of the publishers and journalist started distributing sensational and over exaggerated news. Hence publishing news of public interest.

In today's time, we complain about how journalism has changed its meaning, how the line between soft news and hard news is being blurred. Soft news is given more importance. The relevant news gets lost in the sea of irrelevant soft news. We unintentionally or intentionally give more importance to the news which does not hold much importance for bringing awareness or development of society. Sure it brings us entertainment. But Political and economic issues swamp in a heap of insignificant news. We give considerable importance to paparazzi and hence they are heftily paid to track celebrities. The authentic journalist who seeks to raise the curtain of leading cases and issues, hold insufficient interest to us.We give so much importance to all the paparazzi news that the journalists are not motivated to present stories which are to be brought upon in the minds of the public.
I would like to conclude by suggesting that if we want journalists who work which is remaining true to its meaning, we must realize our duty as readers or viewers. We must demand stories which are worth sharing and publishing. The journalism shapes according to our needs and interest and we are responsible for blemishing the significance of journalism.
