A world without colours.
I was reading one of my favourite book named ‘Night Circus’, in this book the author, she has beautifully made us imagine a world without any colour. The world just in black and white. This blog is based on possibilities and probabilities. It has nothing to do with facts. So what it would it be like if there were no colours?
Repeatedly science has shown us how people perceive the same colour differently. Experienced graphic designers can see a broader spectrum of colours as compared to an accountant. Maybe because their job has trained them to do so or some people are even born with that talent. If you ever met a colour-blind person then you would really see how sad it is for them to not experience the beauty that exists in this world. There are many videos on YouTube where you see a colour-blind person wearing goggles that allow them to see colours for the first time. When you see that person overcome with emotions, that is when you realize that you are taking this simple thing around you for granted.
We are going to take a hypothetical situation where the ability to see colours just does not exist. Our early human ancestors are believed to have UV-sensitive. This ability to see colour, it got a very interesting theory behind it, actually two theories. One theory suggests that the ability to see colour evolved from the need to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous fruits. The other, very recent theory suggests that the ability to see colours evolve from the need to distinguish different skin tones. For example when one was reacting to danger or even blushing. So perhaps in the world without colours, we humans would be completely different.
So let's start with the idea of our five traditional senses and how our brain acts as a CPU so that we can comprehend our ability for sight, smell, touch, hear and taste. If one of our sense were compromised, then the other one would step up to compensate. It is difficult to imagine how we would have even made it to the modern age if our ability to see colours were absolutely taken away. Perhaps, the human body itself would have changed completely. Like a dog who cannot see as many colours as us but uses his nose and ways that you can't even imagine or a bat that uses its ears to travel and hunt. One of our senses would be supercharged and the cause of evolution would completely change. Our anatomy would have developed differently. How we even process information that would be completely changed. Another possibility is that eventually, we would get to a place where modern science would be able to give us colour vision. Just the way that they have given us night vision goggles, X-Ray machines, and underwater sonar. However, this situation is not hypothetical. Modern science is making not only easier but also cheaper for us to have better hearing or the ability to see things that other people are not capable of, things that earlier generations would have only seen in science fiction.
Let me know what would happen to the interpersonal relationships without any colour. What would this world be like if there were no colour in the comment section below.
