One of the most critically acclaimed anime series of all time, Code Geass was produced by Sunrise studio. The numerous twists and turns in the story of the fight for power over the world, will make you want to binge watch the series.
The series starts with the defeat of Japan by the Holy Empire of Britannia and its subsequent renaming to Area 11. Because of the second grade treatment of its residents, Japan starts a resistance in order to gain independence. Lelouch Lamperouge, a Britannian student, finds himself caught in a crossfire between the Britannian and the Area 11 rebels armed forces. He is able to escape, thanks to the appearance of a mysterious girl named C.C, who bestows upon him Geass, the 'Power of Kings.' Lelouch embarks upon a perilous journey as the masked vigilante known as Zero, leading a merciless onslaught against Britannia in order to get revenge once and for all.
With the plot being quite complex, the ending doesn't fail to deliver either, with Lelouch's planned assassination of himself just as he becomes the emperor of the world.
Scum's Wish is a 12 episode anime series produced by Lerche studio. At first glance, it seems to be of the romance genre, but you will be sorely mistaken if you think it's so black and white. With a plot designed to run over all your emotions, jumble them up and toss them in the bin, this series is basically about unrequited love (I am truly sorry, even after watching the series I can't explain it in a sentence).
With such a crazy plot, maybe the viewers would be left begging for a normal ending, but the story is relentless with the main characters splitting up in a non-conclusive ending. In the end your emotions are in such a state of shock, you can only cry.
An 11 episode anime series produced by MAPPA studio, Terror in Resonance is about two teenage boys who initiate terrorist attacks on Tokyo. Unwillingly part of a secret government project, 'Nine' and 'Twelve' try to prove their existence by waking up the world with their well-planned and executed attacks that leave no casualties.
Going by the way the plot was progressing, one would expect a happy ending, however, in the end, in a dramatic turn of events, the boys end up dying.
Produced by White Fox and C-Station studios, this 24 episode anime series revolves around Tatsumi, a young boy who travels to the capital to earn money for his village only to discover the rampant corruption in the capital. He is recruited by Night Raid, a group of assassins bent on ridding the capital of its corruption. The plot is quite unique with many prominent characters dying throughout the series.
Just when the series is ending and the main character is struggling to defeat his enemies in the final battle, one expects him to defeat his enemies even if the odds are against him. However, in a sudden twist to the story, the main character himself dies and the story progresses and ends without him.
