People run for sleep after voluntarily running away from it.

Vacations and holidays have finally arrived for most of us, and some of us are already halfway through them. Maybe this would be the most boring talk you would be reading, something similar to what your parents might be telling you, but that’s not going to stop me from putting it out, is it?

While many of us crave for that one stretch of free time, called The Holidays, there are a few people who just cannot help but reach extreme levels of boredom during this time. Honestly, many people that I personally know HATE the idea of vacations, because of how their mental health condition is. See, unless you are really occupied, your idle mind is literally an invitation to thoughts which consume your headspace and lead to anxiety. We anyway have limited time, don't we?

What can you do?

Trying to execute new ideas, be it in the form of writing, sketching, painting; or even reading a new book, re-reading your favorite old ones, learning an instrument or a language; there is no limit to the various escapes we can have to spend our time. There are so many places unexplored, friends we haven’t me, sides to us we have no clue about. This is the perfect time to give a push to our creativity and talent.

Why control is important:

Movies and specially TV series have now become one of the few things that we do between waking up and going back to sleep. For anyone who thinks that I am being hypocritical, let me just say it out. I obviously LOVE watching certain TV shows and when it comes to fan-drooling, I bet I am on the top of the list (if there is any). But it is important to not get addicted to them, because once the vacations are over, while we will be grateful for all the relaxation, we definitely would end up pondering if we could have done things differently.

Great plotlines, characters and their development are some factors which glue us to fitting in ‘that one more episode’ and it is 3 a.m. and only then do we realize that our sleeping pattern is genuinely going to get messed up. It seems fine, because we do get up late but it does change the entire functioning cycle of our bodies and if there would be a change in scheduled timings post vacations, it gets difficult to cope up and what we see is dark circles and people running for sleep after running from it.

It is totally understandable that we need to ‘chill’ because frankly, as we grow, we won’t be getting any of these vacations, but let’s not give in to momentary relaxation and let it cave in later on us, in the form of worse conditions, be it about the way our health is, our behavior towards others and for that matter, our lifestyle.
