Art, Freedom and Creativity will change society faster than Politics. - Victor Pinchuk

Can we eat gold? Can we eat diamonds? No! But we need clean water, healthy food and hygienic environment to survive. Tragically, we live in a world ruled by governments that prefer spending trillions on nuclear weapons, missiles and tankers than actually focusing on most basic of human needs which stand neglected even in the 21st century.

But thankfully not all sanity is lost. We still have among us inventors and innovators who are not guided by mercenary motives and have given birth to some genius inventions that help make world a better place.

Browse through to glimpse at inventions that make this world a happier place to exist in:
1. Lifestraw

Nearly all developing countries face shortage of clean drinking water. The invention of the straw that filters water is revolutionary as it helps to filter out all microbiological contaminants in water, making it safe and pure to drink. Created by Swiss-based company, Vestergaard Frandsen, Lifestraw can also be effectively used during times of natural disasters when access to clean and pure water is compromised.

2. An APP enabling lending your eyes to the blind

Via a direct video connection, the app BE MY EYES help to connect blind people with sighted volunteers who wish to help them out. Using this app, blind people can navigate the world while the volunteers get to feel good for this social service.

3. A Kit making Menstruation easier

Even in 21st century, menstruation still remains stigmatized and many women have trouble getting easy access to sanitary napkins and tampons. To fight this issue, inventors have created Flo. Flo is a menstruation kit that contains within itself a simple spinning and cleaning gadget, mini clothe lines and a zippered pouch for transport. By cleaning and storing reusable sanitary pads, Flo aims at curbing the above problems.

4. The Floating Rubbish Bin that cleans the ocean

Today our oceans and marine life face great danger due to marine pollution and dumping of waste. While our marine wildlife is slowly dying, we sit comfortably in our homes totally unaware of environmental problems. However, there are some who actually care. We should be thankful to Pete Ceglinski and his team for inventing Seabin. Replacing trash boats, Seabin is a floating rubbish bin, working 24/7, that effectively collects floating waste, debris and oil.

5. The Flatback Refugee shelter

Refugees have difficult stories to tell but have few ears to listen. While we enjoy the comforts of our cozy homes, they lie stranded in hostile environments, barely surviving. Thankfully, the collaboration between IKEA Foundation and the United Nations High Commissioners for Refugees has led to the invention of The Flatback Refugee Shelter. Fitted with solar panels, mosquito nets, lights, and ventilation and a lockable door for privacy and safety, these shelters can last up to three years.

Remember, necessity is the mother of all inventions. It’s time we correctly prioritize our needs and work towards the creation of a happier and healthy world than a world rich in materialistic goods but low on humanity and thoughtfulness.
