It was Valentines.

He stood, waiting with a bouquet of roses and a box of Swiss chocolates. Her favourite. The smile was persistent. Then, she came with a bottle of red wine. It was their classic Valentines day celebration.

Of course, they were in love. A beautiful girl and a handsome boy. The most adorable couple ever seen. Envious, people were, but it just made them stronger.

" Are we done?" He asked, wiping the sweat off his head.

" I think we are..." She threw a packet of Oreo towards him.

" Now."

Haversack was heavy, but he had crunched a safe place for that Oreo because he knew it was coming.

Trekking is fun, it really is.

Lush green, yet muddy mountains. Foggy skies and a wave of nice fresh air.

With a bunch of friends, it's all the more exhilarating.

The rains started lightly as they began the climb. 25 young teens with 3 guides. It was just another rainy trek for them.

" I think rains are divine, but summers have their charm. We should do the summer ones more." He said.

" Nay! Summer means sweaty. Summer is to chill in a pool or to chill not at all." He shook his head as the rains started lashing.

" Troop! Stay Put. We shall halt at the end of this hill. " The guide shouted.

The terrain was rough but it wasn't their first after all. They had seen the worst. The crashing rains drop turned to teardrops in no time and their lives were rooted upside down.

Standing beside a grey gravestone, at a one year anniversary, she wiped her tears. That marked the anniversary of a lot of moments of their life. But, she knew he'd want him to remember only the brave and happy ones.

She did love him after all.

So, she's gonna remember all of them.

That day he gave her a yellow rose. A year later it turned to a red one.

Ever since 6 years flew by like magic.

The chocolates, the fights, the tiny presents and of course his contagious laugh.

Lastly, his eternal love. She'll remember how he took a fall that was meant for her last year when the odds were against her.

The guilt will stay forever as she was the one to let go and not him.

Guilt and Regret are miserable pieces of baggage of life. Today, she felt both.

The slippery terrain and the rough rocks, took the better of a well-experienced trekker as she tumbled towards the cliff.

His swift move, pulled her in as the others held her tight in place will he switched places with her.

His hand was still in her as everyone worked against the winds to pull him up.

He was slipping steeper.

" You need to let go. You know that..." He shouted as she shook her head.

" I can't..." The rains and the tears made her vision blurry.

" You have... Or else, our love will be lost, forever." The fingers slid across the palms and they called it an end.

Fifteen Years.

That memory still gives goosebumps, but that contagious smile never left her alone.

" Hon, dessert is served..." Called her husband. It was a wonderful day for them.

But, the date didn't end yet.

" Mumma... I've done the marshmallows." Said a little one of 5 with a smile that she could never forget.

She walked in an open lawn with a clear sky overhead. A bonfire along with cosy mats defined a perfect end to their Valentines day.

" Did you now, little guy? " She asked looking at his adorable son with a perfect smile she would never forget.

*Somewhere in dark*

In ❥ His Memory.

-Who died bravely protecting his love.

He smiled as he saw a happy family thriving. His life did have a meaning after all and so did his death.

He cracked open the Oreo packet. He's lucky now that his supply never finishes.
