Korean and Chinese dramas and korean pop are taking over the entertainment industry by a storm. With more and more teens obsessing over one or the other artist or movie star, it can be difficult to overlook this so in-the-face trend. However, Kdramas seem to be much more of a permanent interest than just a weekly fad. For a person that doesn't much understand why these cute little series are so popular and wants to find out more about them, here are top three kdramas one can start with (All of these are available on netflix with english subtitles):-
Meteor Garden is a chinese television series and not a korean one, however it has been adapted from it's korean counterpart Boys Over Flowers. This drama is about Dong shancai, a girl fresh into Ming De university, pursuing her the course she always dreamed to pursue. She hope to survive the year without any drama, but little does she know fate has something else in mind. She bumps into the most don't-mess-with clique, popular among all students and intolerant to her fiesty nature. These boys have intricate plans to stir up some trouble for Shancai.
This kdrama has managed to capture the hearts of millions because of it's awkward and relatable female lead as well as the too-good-to-be-true male lead. Mi Rae has been bullied for her looks all her life. Driven with the desire to be accepted in college, she gets plastic surgery. However, this plan does not work out so well when society starts calling her fake. She seems to be at crossroads, unable to understand why she shunned and humiliated when her face was especially altered to meet standards. She finds a friend in the well-admired delinquent Kyung-seok who seems to always support her when things go wrong. With the help of immense courage and her new friend, Mi Rae slowly realizes that true beauty comes from the inside and that people's opinions must not mean anything to her.
This kdrama is the most adventurous of all those I've come across, sure to keep you on your toes. Geum Ran is wronged by her husband and family to the point of almost death. She returns with a mind for revenge, transforming herself into a new woman called Sara. Tae-Hee, a restaurant entrepreneur pretends to be her doctor and helps her satisfy her thrist for revenge against their common enemy. Along the way, Geum Ran understands that those who love her have always accepted her for who she was and that she does not need to change for anyone. With the aid of a stranger, she finds strength and recognises that she is a dynamic woman, whether she lives as Geum Ran or as Sara.
