Pupils dilate, paranoia takes it's toll,

your brain's gone for a stroll.

You do it day and night.

It's your peace of mind.

It's the red in your black and white.

You forget,

That it's a threat.

You dramatically say "my heart's black."

But, now your lungs match the colour too.

You don't really remember who's who.

you wait for an improbable breakthrough.

Do you even know what it'll lead to?

And bit by bit,

You fall into the abyss

Of your bliss.

Ignorance is your bliss.

You throat is burning, about to choke.

You don't want to invoke,

The memories of your soul,

So, You blissfully smoke.

There are over 625,000 Indian teens who smoke cigarettes everyday according to the most updated edition of The Tobacco Atlas. May it be peer pressure, a need for freedom, rebel behaviour or a coping mechanism, 625,000 teens are ruining their lives for nothing. A puff of hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide is not going to make you pass your exams.

Smoking is harmful, both mentally and physically. Everyone has read the warning signs and heard how smoking can actually kill you and seriously damage your lungs. Smoking is plentiful in physical disadvantages which are pretty obvious and well-known. Smoking however, is disastrous to your mental and emotional health too. A quick smoke is not going to give you a solution to that tough relationship or that difficult depression. Smoking is going to pretend as if it's going to give you relief. It's the devil in disguise, giving you momentary release, returning later to multiply your problems. See a therapist and learn to meditate to deal with depression. Talk with your partner and figure out the misunderstandings in the relationship. Smoking is the short term mitigation for your stress, that comes back to bite harder.

Don't turn your lungs to tar and burn your throat to ashes for absolutely no returns. You are sacrificing so much of yourself to smoke and the cigarette isn't even thanking you, all it's doing is using you. Don't listen to that supposedly "cool" and "gangsta" friend who is bent on trapping youinto the scheme that has trapped him. Don't resolve yourself to seeking transient coping mechanisms, look for what will help you in the long run. Cope with life with a strong head on your shoulders, a pure heart and mostly, functioning lungs. You think you are smoking to live a happier life, but a weak mind that is slave to addiction and a dying body close to breaking point are not the definition of a happier life at all.

Agreed, @Manda Kini. All around me, my classmates are people who either smoke regularly, do it once in a while, or are open to trying it sometime, but I'm glad that I never gave into any kind of peer pressure. Smoking is definitely an all loss, no win game but I don't know why some people still can't seem to get it and keep doing it, knowing themselves how they are deteriorating 😣😞 But very well written!
