Break Bad Habits Before They Break You!

There exists some habit or the other which we all seem to regret in our lives- be it being late for every event, smoking, shopping addictions or binge-eating. And yet, there is very little that we do to actually correct it. Often when we happen to realise this bad habit’s presence in our lives, it turns out to be a stubborn companion, one which refuses to let go of us.

However, here are some proactive measures one can take to curb bad habits and smoothly kick them out of our lives-

1.Acceptance is key. Admitting to yourself that what you’re doing is wrong and harmful in the long run, is indeed painful and awfully hard.

2.Keep your critics close. Choose some reliable people who can show you the truth and remind you of your goals. These may be the very people who are never going to let you get pulled down by any shortcomings, no matter what. Just make sure that the individual who shoulders this responsibility is not the demoralising kind, for that may be hazardous and incredibly counterproductive.

3.Make an ideal plan. So that even if you execute seventy percent of it, it is still major progress in stepping away from your habit.

4.Replace a bad habit with a good one. This a classic example, since there are only so many hours in the day. So spend your time effectively doing anything that makes your heart sing and gets you up and about. Collect and build precious moments in your life and you wouldn’t even notice when the bad habit takes an exit.

5.Read some motivational stories of how people went through the same process of overcoming your particular bad habit. This might help you gain insight as to how your life can be enriched with a bad habit out of the way.

6.No matter what, don’t stop. A few setbacks are all right, but they should not convince you to stop trying altogether.

One should do well to remember that our imperfections are what makes us so human. And we should not get caught up in our self- created troubles. Take one step at a time, and allow the magic of life to unwind by itself.
