The earth has mysteries for those who want to solve them.

Our mother nature is full of mysterious and hidden places holding questions for years. Each place on this Earth has its own unique features. Some features are not just unique but can also seem weird to our human minds. Some of the weird places in the world which scientists recently explained are -

Blood Falls, Antarctica -

The deep redfalls were first discovered in Antarctica in 1911 where scientists noticed a river had stained the surrounding cliff of ice with a dark red color. The deep red coloring is due to oxidized iron in brine saltwater, the same process that gives the irona dark red color when it rusts. The release of latent heat associated with freezingcontributes to keeping the water above the freezing temperature. Hence, the occurrence of blood falls.

Lake Hillier, Australia -

The awe-inspiring milkshake colored lake was discovered in1802by a Royal Navy explorer near the coast ofMiddle Island in the Recherche Archipelagoto the south of Western Australia. The exact cause is not known for sure but most scientists do agree it has probably something to do with the presence of a specific species of microalgae -Dunaliella Salina. The lake is, nowadays, primarily a tourist attraction but was once used to extract the salt.

The sleeping city of Kalachi, Kazakhstan -

In 2014, it was reported that almost a fifth of the population of the village of Kalachi had been affected with a 'sleep syndrome'. People tend to sleep anywhere, anytime for days. Kazakh officials have given their report about the disease stating thatcarbon monoxide, and otherhydrocarbonsas a result of a flood around the abandoned Soviet-erauranium minenearby is causing Sleep Hollow, by spreading through the village's air.

The never-ending lightning storm of Catatumbo, Venezuela -

Located at the mouth of the Catatumbo river, there’s a storm that rages continuously, with 250 strikes of lightning an hour, for 10 hours a day, up to 300 days a year. This phenomenon has been going on for centuries and it’s so massive that it’s visible up to 400 kilometers away. No one knows the actual reason behind it. Some suggest the air above river has enhanced conductivity because of Methane from Oilfields below and some say the region’s unique topography and wind patterns contribute to the unique phenomenon.

Fairy circles of Namibia, Africa -

These are the circular patches of land barren of plants, varying between 2 and 15 meters (7 and 49ft) in diameter, often encircled by a ring of stimulated growth of grass. People have tried to explain Namibia’s fairy circles for centuries. Locals call these patches of bare ground surrounded by rings of tall grass 'god’s footprints'.These are probably created by termites under the soil that clear vegetation in the area around their nests, and the plants competing for water.

Movile cave, Romania -

Often known as 'lost world' this cave in Romaniawas discovered by Cristian Lascu in 1986 a few kilometers from theBlack Seacoast. It is notable for its unique groundwater ecosystem rich inhydrogen sulfideandcarbon dioxide but low inoxygen, just like the environment of planet Mars and ancient Earth. Life in the cave has been separated from the outside for the past 5.5 million years and it is based onchemosynthesisrather thanphotosynthesis.

Spotted Lake, British Columbia, Canada -

Spotted Lakehas long been revered by the native Okanagan (Syilx) people and it’s easy to see why they think of it as sacred. In winter and spring, the lake looks just like any other body of water. But in the summer the water of the lake evaporates and small mineral pools are left behind, each one different in color to the next. The colorful pools are the result of a high concentration of minerals, including calcium, sodium sulfates and magnesium sulfate collected in the lake.
