Tired of eating the same old Biriyani and Chinese? The quest for trying new food is perhaps never ending, and Kolkata is a hub of hidden gems when it comes to unique eateries. If you are amongst those foodies who are always on the search for off-beat and delicious food, I hope this blog comes to your rescue the next time you are out dining.

1)Santa’s Fantasea

Cuisine: Tribal and sea food

It is every foodie’s dream when it comes to their quirky yet amazing food, much like the name. They serve dishes of Sikkim, Nagaland, Orissa and more. Famous for their “baansh pora” (bamboo roasted) delicacies which are infused with an indulgent scent of smoke, the mutton is probably the best among them. They also serve an extensive range of perfectly cooked seafood like octopus, mussels, squids and crabs.

2)Milee Droog Café & Bistro

Cuisine: Russian

It is Kolkata’s only café that serves Russian food. ‘Milee Droog’ meaning ‘dear friend’ in Russian, actually came into being, when a Moscow girl named Irina fell in love with the Calcutta based entrepreneur Satyaki. The Pelminis, Blinis, Khachapuris and Priozkhis are a must try. Located in Gorky Sadan, Milee Droog has also introduced some European and Middle Eastern cuisines to their menu. They also had to amp up the spice quotient in their Russian food in order to match the Indian palette.

3)Tintin and Brussels Club

Cuisine: Belgian

This recently opened restaurant is based on our favorite childhood hero Tintin and we Calcuttans cannot keep calm! Its Tintin themed décor with cutouts of Tintin, Snowy (Kuttush for us Bengalis), a cussing Captain Haddock and the famous Professor Calculus, immediately strikes the chord of nostalgia and how. It is located in Hindustan Park near Azad Hind Dhaba. Apart from the telltale Belgian waffles, they also serve a host of other Belgian delicacies and the best cheese fondue.

4)Raj Spanish Café

Cuisine: Spanish, Mexican and Italian

This one is for the people looking to devour great Spanish and Mexican food on a budget. Located in Sudder Street, it is a hit with the foreigners and millennial alike. Their Lasagna De Pollo, Chicken Stroganoff and Soufle Di Cioccolato are crowd pleasures. They also provide an extensive breakfast range for the early birds.

5)The Sushi Oke

Cuisine: Japanese

There might be a lot of Japanese restaurants in Kolkata but they have priced their food at rather exorbitant rates. But The Sushi Oke comes to the rescue for their great variety of Sushis at much cheaper rates. Located in Park Street, their Nigiri, Prawn Tempuras and Philadelphia Roll with smoked salmon are definitely worth a try.

I hope this list helps you all discover some of the best food in Kolkata. Comment down below if you would like me to write on anything else. Thank you!
