"Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction." —Bob Marley

According to a recent report by The Partnership, more teens are smoking marijuana with nearly 1 in 10 smoking at least 20 or more times a month.Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States having more than 11 million cannabis smokers or as they say, stoners, ranging from 18 to 25 years. Just because today marijuana is widely regarded to be a lot safer than alcohol, its consumption rates are fairly rising to 23% increase since the past year. But what exactly is weed? Let us know more of it.

WHAT IS WEED?

Marijuana—also calledweed, herb, pot, grass, bud, ganja, Mary Jane, and a vast number of other slang terms—is a greenish-gray mixture of the dried flowers ofCannabis sativa. The plant contains the mind-altering chemical THC and other similar compounds. Cannabis has a plant unlike any other. Its medical benefits are getting increasingly well-documented by medical professionals. better mental health, , increased appetite, as well as a host of other positive perks.

To a point, weed has always been a part of pop culture. It was always seen as a rebellious drug, one that's both intertwined with being free-spirited and being earthy. Though the hippie vibe surrounding cannabis culture still lives on, we're now seeing a new wave of interest in marijuana — a more corporate interest.

With all the buzz going on about marijuana legalization in just about every state, it's not surprising that the benefits of cannabis are starting to become even more widely discussed by everyone from doctors to students to stock market gurus. And though you may have seen weed quotes or marijuana quotes from Bob Marley or Snoop Dogg, plenty of intellectuals have had a lot to say about this plant.

HOW IS IT CONSUMED?

Some people smoke marijuana in hand-rolled cigarettes calledjoints; in pipes, water pipes (sometimes calledbongs), or inblunts(marijuana rolled in cigarwraps). Marijuana can also be used to brew tea and, particularly when it is sold or consumed for medicinal purposes, is frequently mixed into foods (edibles) such as brownies, cookies, or candies. Vaporizers are also increasingly used to consume marijuana. Stronger forms of marijuana include sinsemilla (from specially tended female plants) and concentrated resins containing high doses of marijuana's active ingredients, including honeylikehash oil, waxybudder, and hard amberlikeshatter. These resins are increasingly popular among those who use them both recreationally and medically. Marijuana emits a distinctive pungent usually sweet-and-sour odor when it is smoked.

Now, the question is why is it suddenly being consumed so much? Here is how a high teen answered me."Imagine! No violence, hatred or wars. People letting people and situations be, just because they are too high to care about color, creed and religion. (Lol.)

Marijuana gives you an ineffable, ineluctable and transcendental experience (the only caveat being its quality :P) and more often than not, you end up retrospecting your thoughts, actions and your whole life!

It makes you a philosopher, a painter, a poet, a musician (at least enables you to feel like one) and frees your mind to the endless possibilities that the world around us offers."

However, our precious weed has its own side effects too.

Some of its issues include short term memory, paranoia, panic attacks and some times even hallucinations. Other than that, the worse of all problems, you might have sexual issues as a male and as a female, you are at a higher risk of upto seven times more likely to contract sexually transmitted infections than non-users. So next time whenever you think of flying high, think of how low you'd fall when sober.
