Is Feminism Being Misunderstood?

In this era, almost all of us are fighting the gender stereotypes and making efforts to establish equality among all the genders in every sphere of life. Feminists are the ones, seeking to provide educational and professional opportunities for women that are equal to those for men. But the irony is, many of us, claim to be the feminist but still ignore the main point of feminism i.e. EQUALITY. The people who actually assume or blather on about 'how terrible men are' or often tag men as 'misogynists', aren't feminists but pseudo feminists.

Pseudo feminists are nothing but the ones who encourage misandry i.e. hatred for men and this has given rise to an another group of 'masculists' who on contrary to pseudo feminists advocate for therights,equality anddignityof the male sex and ignores the issues of women. Making the difference crystal clear, feminism means that both the genders must be equal, and should not be ashamed of expressing traits that may not be considered feminine or masculine. Contrary to the popular belief, it also includes the rights of men and the issues prevalent among them. It is idiotic to call yourself a feminist, if you shame men for crying, being a woman consider a woman's short dress to be an invitation to rape, say that curvy girls are better than others, acknowledge men's issues as misogyny, mock men who are being raped or think trans women are not real women.

The worst thing is, in name of feminism, pseudo feminism andhypocrisy are merged and sexist belief is most popular among them. Quoting an example of Abhishek Bachchan, who is mostly mocked on twitter by people for not being as successful as her wife but it's not so for the women who are identified through their star husband. There are so many false cases reported by women for molestation. Remember that Sarvjeet Singh, now known as a harasser, thanks to a false case filed by a Delhi college student Jasleen Kaur. In an interview he has opened up about how tough and embarrassing his life has been after this incident. Apart from this, some pseudo feminists are also a culprit of trans bashing, like Robertons, a transgender man, was killed by two women, who had been mistreating him physically and psychologically for a year. Recently, the American comedian, Jessica Moore, got kicked off four innocent Sikhs just because she was scared of how they looked. This is a thing of shame, which she is boasting off on Instagram. Such irrational behaviour, abuses the actual meaning of feminism.

We all know that our society is not perfect and fair and it has always been skewed in favour of the other sex and time has come for this to sink in and make the requisite changes and that can only be done through equality, gender justice and rationality. Feminism is fundamental to every individual irrespective of their gender and women deserve not more but equal respect as men. It's important for every individual to know the distinction between two different concepts and do not ridicule the male sex for the sake women empowerment. People who actually understand feminism do not carry a badge of being a 'feminist'.
