Women empowerment has been the subject of discussion in the current world scenario. The whole world and particularly the Indian society was deemed as a patriarchal one which served as oxygen to the flames of this topic. Back to the days when India was under the Mughal rule or even under the British raj, female infanticide was a common practice all across the country. Women were not even allowed to show their face in front of men let aside voicing their opinions. Even today we live in a society where every girl is either made to fight for her dreams or is taken away from them.
Ours is a culture of hypocrisy and pretense as we treat women as goddess on some days and then rape and kill them for fun on others. So it became the need of the hour for someone to pay heed towards it and that was the birth of this topic.
We are amidst many questions today such as - How successful has the campaigns been or Has there been a difference in the mindset of people? We cannot answer all of them now but one thing we can be sure of is that India is trying to change, the youth is trying to change.
We find common people making efforts to understand and embrace the change in thinking process and it is no surprise that the youth has started acknowledging the fact that it is time for change and we are the one who need to put in the effort towards it. We find people understanding and talking about things like periods and taking it well which was once considered taboo in the society. We have men who are willing to put in effort to make women happy every day and understand and acknowledge the fact that if real women empowerment has to come, the support from men is a must.
We have been time and again forced to think on this because of the success women have achieved from the limited resources that has been provided to them. Today we know what women are capable of and what change we could bring to the society and the world, in the larger picture, if we treat them equally. Similarly on the other hand women need to understand that they are no less and can be as competitive and effective as men.
If somehow we are able to establish a mindset in the society where men respect and dignify women and women truly understand the potential they carry we will go by leaps and bounds towards a world of our dream.
