"Work out, summers in, let the drama stop and the fun begin".
But what about when the summers are gone and the drama starts to sweep in again?
Had a nice summer vacation that finally seems to end? Dreading to look at all the pending work, unable to form a plan on how to resume from where you left before the summer vacation. Have no clue on what new to do, what to aim at, what purpose to serve, how to start, how to handle the overflowing inbox or hectic meeting schedule or in a student's case the back to school study load and tuition schedules.
Slipping back into work mode can be a challenging task irrespective of the fact whether you are a student or a worker and succumbing to the pressure to speed back into work can undo the benefits you may have received from taking a summer vacation.
Here are a few tips to help solve all your problems, save you from back-to-work blues and get you back into action after a long peaceful summer vacation avoiding the post- vacation hangover.
1.Plan your return in advance:
Planning what to do once your vacations are over help you avoid the extra stress that you may feel if you go back into work mode unprepared. Students should plan their study schedule keeping it light in the beginning and then gradually getting into a lot more productive and rigorous schedule. Working people should carefully plan their meetings according to priority keeping most important ones at the top, mark catch up date in the calendar for emails and then slowly ease into their business mode.
2.Make a To-Do list:
Sort your priorities and make an itinerary accordingly. You know your vacations are about to finish, so start organising your things and preparing your mind for what lies ahead of the vacations. Students should wind up their holiday homework so that they have minimum stress once their school restarts. Workers should sort out emails, meetings and work related documents by importance rather than by urgency.
3.Improve your sleep cycle:
This is for both students and workers. You need to gently ease into your work routine by improving the sleep cycle and giving less but a significant time to the most important tasks at hand. During vacation, we tend to disrupt our sleeping schedule by napping whenever we want, but one week prior from starting work or getting back to school start having 6-7 hours of night sleep. For students try waking up early in the morning so that once your school starts you do not feel as if it is a burden to wake up and go to school.
4.Do not ignore your vacation:
Working people should bring some of the positive feelings they had while on vacation back to the office to keep their holiday high going. Adding a photo or small memento of their trip to their workspace can serve as a remembrance of the wonderful time they had and keep them going. Students can write down about the vacation in a journal, have photos hung in their room so that the positive vacation vibes continue.
5.Keep up your enthusiasm:
Keep your hopes high and look up to meeting your co-workers, for students your friends, once you go back. This would help you feel good about going back to your work place or your school. Going to work or school only for the sake of doing it would never let you feel good about it. Feel happy about what you are doing. You had your vacation and now it's time to start working with a mind clearer and happier than before.
The Key is to stop thinking and start acting. Plan, organize and then act. Don’t be stressed. Know your priorities. Do the most important tasks first. That is all you need to know to get back into action once your summer vacation ends.
