Breakfast, a word that stands true to its name “break the fast”.

We have often heard people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But why is it considered that important? It is just that our body does not consume anything after dinner but continues to work all along using up a lot of energy stores for growth and repair and is famished by the time morning arrives. So it becomes an absolute necessity for us to have a healthy and wholesome breakfast for a complete recharge of our system.

A nutritious breakfast does lot more than just keeping us awake, it promotes a healthy heart by regulating the cholesterol levels and blood pressure along with providing energy source for the entire day. An invigorating breakfast sets the tone for the whole day and promotes weight maintenance and weight loss by taking care of our body’s glucose levels. Breakfast assists us in kick starting our daily metabolism. In addition to keeping us fit, it helps us focus on our work and study.

But today’s rat race towards materialism and success has made us so busy that we hardly get any time for a proper and healthy breakfast. Every morning we come across a situation where we are forced to make the decisive choice between having breakfast and reaching our workplace or college on time and guess what, the rat race tops breakfast every single day.

Researchers have found that people who have salubrious breakfast regularly are thinner, fitter and ruddy compared to the ones who are on the skipping side of it. To add to the fact, it was found that people who have breakfast as the largest meal of the day had lower body mass index (B.M.I) measured against those who had larger lunch or dinner.

Skipping breakfast on a regular basis can be really noxious for the human body. The repercussions of it can be weight gain, bad mood and low energy levels apart from increasing the risk of hair fall, diabetes and cancer. Moreover, most of us have experienced the fact that we tend to get infuriated very easily and mess our work up when we are hungry.

Breakfast acts an invincible force providing us with energy for the activities that lay ahead in the day. It stimulates the brain and can give us a mental edge over others.

To sum it all, I would like to quote a wise man who said - “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”
