The Rise Of The Otaku Culture

In this millenium , there has been rise of new popular cultures like pop culture and rock culture in music , selfie culture in photography etc. There has been a growth of such another culture in the field of entertainment, especially in the cartooning and comics genre. It is known as the Otaku culture. The word Otaku primarily means people with obsessive interests. But it is mostly related with the people following the craze of anime and manga.

Akio Nakamari's essay which was published in 1983 , named as Manga Burikko , was one of the first works on a manga. Though the work "The Otaku murderer", stirred a negative vibe yet still this culture one of the popular cultures all over the world centering Japan.

The Otaku culture mainly has two divisions - the fan base reading Mangas and the much bigger fan base which follows Anime. In 1980's with the sudden popularity of the Anime series like Dragon Ball and Space Battleship Yamato there was a boom in the production of anime series in the anime world. After a short span of time in 90's , released other legendary anime series - One piece, Digimon , Pokemon etc -which increased its fan base.

There was also a development in the field of Anime production . Anime artistes and producers got more into 3D rendering process. This is more evident in the new millenium animes like Naruto , Eureka7 . Finally there evolved anie with high quality graphics and fine detailing in 3D. Hunter X Hunter , Sword Art Online , Attack on Titan , Parasyte- the Maxim, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations , Black Clover, One punch Man are all example of these.

Anime films has also become popular in the light of the stories like Koeno katchi ( The silent voice ), Kimi no nawa ( your name) etc. Spirited Away, an anime film won a number of awards at the Berlin film festival and won the best Animation feature film at the Academy Awards. Innocence - The ghost in the Shell was featured in the Cannnes film festival.

The history of Manga is even more interesting as it comes from time of the 12 Century. The Japanese cartooning art form Meji and pre Meji has really influenced the form of modern manga. Another form of manga which had started in 1975 was the trend of Shojo Manga or ladies comics. For men there was 3 categories shonen (up to 18 years ), seinen( 18 to 30 years ) and seijen which developed into the modern manga. The modern Manga books and comics are available in bookstore worldwide.

Thus , in a nutshell, we can state that the otaku culture is in its flourishing phase .As it seems it would gradually advance into the other countries where it had not reached and expand more into the world of entertainment.
