North Sikkim Tourism

Lachung and Lachen

Lachung is a prominent tourist destination in North Sikkim. The spectacular waterfalls and the natural beauty of the village attract the nature loving tourists. The snow beautiful waterfalls and the snow clad mountain ranges provides a magnetic and a glorious look to the village. Lachung is used as the base and from there they visit to different places, one of the famous tourist spots in Lachung in the Yumthang valley. Orchards of peaches, apricots and apple offer a pleasurable and appealing sight for all the visitors. Lachen is one of the most peaceful and picturesque village of Sikkim. It is situated at an altitude of 8500 ft and 105 km away from Gangtok. The splendid scenic landscapes of Lachen attract the tourists. Lachen is used as a base for many North Sikkim treks and is also the access point to high altitude lakes like Gurudongmar Lake and Tso Lhamu Lake. Lachen is also a pilgrim destination as there are many ancient monasteries present there.

Gurudongmar Lake and Yumthang Valley

Gurudongmar Lake is situated at an altitude of 17000ft and it is 200km away from Gangtok. The view of the lake and the landscapes is breathtaking and the calm ambience brings huge amount of peace to the minds of the tourists. The lake is located near a village known as Thangu which is situated at an altitude of 14000ft. This lake mostly remains frozen in the winter season so summer is the best time to visit. A special permit is needed to visit this lake as it is situated at a very high altitude and the weather can become worse in some rare cases. Yumthang valley is one of the famous tourist spots in north Sikkim. It is also known as the valley of flowers as it has a long stretch of lands filled with various species of Rhododendrons. It is a paradise for the tourists due to these flowers and the beautiful river Teesta. Lachung is the base destination to visit this valley. On the way to the valley there are many streams and waterfalls which add extra glamour to the entire journey.
