It's a Sunday evening and clock is ticking. You are working continuously to complete your task before the Monday deadline while silently cursing yourself for not starting it sooner. What was this? Procrastination - an act of delaying or postponing any task which needs to be finished by a certain deadline. You delayed the assignment, and then were required to burn the Midnight oil. Why always burn this Midnight oil?

Procrastination is a trap that many of us fall into. At times, it is linked to our mental health problems like stress and anxiety. If your procrastination leads to the feelings of depression, over some time span, it will start to affect other areas of your life. It can restrict your potential. If you overcome this enemy, you will accomplish more personally and professionally. If so, why to postpone a task then?

Recognise that you do procrastinate. Identify the reasons. Reframe the task and its deadline. Commit yourself to your task and promise yourself a reward. Chop a task into smaller segments, focus on what needs to be done. Minimize the distractions, and stop giving excuses. Keep a to do list and switch between tasks to avoid getting stuck. Use a timer. It will help you in learning to respect time.

Procrastination affects the quality of work. It is more about our emotions. If we are mentally strong, we won't procrastinate. It is certainly an obstacle. In the fight between now and later, choose the former. Learn to order yourself - Do it now. Procrastination is like a credit card. It's a lot of fun until you get the bill. Remember Mark Twain said, “The secret of going ahead is getting started.”
