What is feminism? It isn’t about making the women strong. They are already strong. Its about the way the world perceives that strength. Feminism is not just limited to women empowerment rather its equality for both men and women. Last summer my mother brought me and my brother to visit my grandmother. It was a beautiful afternoon .
All of us were sitting on the kitchen table and granny was preparing mango shake for us. Meanwhile me and my brother were discussing about living in the city , I asked my grandmother” what was it in your times? ’’ To this she laughed and said “our times were difficult dear.” She told us that she used to walk 10 miles to go to her school. She secretly got herself enrolled in school because in her times education for girls was difficult. So she used to work in fields after her school hours so that she could pay her school fees.
When she was 17 years old , her father wanted her to get married . She had to fight with her father as she wanted to pursue her studies and do the graduation. But her father was strict and she had to leave the house. She left her house and lived at her friends place for a month and got a scholarship to pursue her graduation. It was difficult for her to reunite with her family again but when she returned , she got married . After marriage she decided that won’t let it happen with her children and made it her first priority to educate her children.
Then she proudly said “ Now all my children are well settled and that makes me the happiest”. Listening to grandma’s story me and my brother looked towards each other and realized that how lucky we both were to get education from such a good school .
