Maybe Thanos Should Have Snapped His Fingers

If you are a millennial like me, there was probably just one thing flooding your feed on social media and news flash for the past few days.The Avenger’s Endgame. Here’s a rewind for you to picture.

Theatres going houseful in a matter of minutes for The Avenger’s Endgame. Even the ones with tickets costing around 800 bucks. The fans were ready to do #whateverittakes to get their hands on these tickets and an opportunity to witness the unfolding of the events leading to the drawing of the curtains of a 10 year old franchise.

The time of Snap : 6:30 AM
Most of the fans woke up at 6:15 in the morning, set up their beds and electronics and other preparations.

Rewind to a day prior, pictures of their alarms set for 5:45 AM and settings changed to ‘Snooze every 5 mins.’

And rewind even further, TheRevision phase. Rewatching the old episodes and movies.

A leap forward in time to the present day.
Loksabha elections 2019. Mumbai voter turnout till 4 PM- 44%. Yet lower from South Mumbai.
Appalling change from the feeds of the past few days.
I sat in my home, having casted my vote and showing the same dedication towards our country’s future as I did to the future of Westeros and the Avenger’s. I woke up at 6 AM and got in line at the polling booth at 7 AM. I saw yet again a few snaps of my friends who’d woken up at 6:15 AM too. But theirs were about the Battle of Winterfell. Seemingly, they’d forgotten about the various Battles our country is fighting against. The battle against corruption, poverty, warring situations, and the list goes on and on. But apparently Dany’s dragons, or the Marvel heroes, were going to solve all these problems in a jiffy.

Why is our sincerity so deflected towards the reel world and not the real one? Wish to witness Superheroes? Find them in your world around. Give them the stature you give these Superheroes and enable them to do better.

But these words seem futile at this moment.
Maybe Thanos really should have snapped his fingers and wiped out half the population.
Because only one half of them actually cared.
